福岡県南部・筑後地方の久留米絣の製織工程で生まれてしまう柄のズレを、錯視効果に見立てて考案したオリジナルの久留米絣柄「Optical Illusion Ikat」をデザインし、ハンカチに仕立てました。

久留米絣は、福岡県南部筑後地方で約220年続く伝統的な織物です。先染めの糸（絣糸）を用いて文様を表現する技法は、1956年に重要無形文化財に指定されました。
古くから地元の人々に親しまれてきた生地ですが、着物文化の衰退とともに小幅織機で生産される生地の用途が減少しています。本商品は、久留米絣織元・下川織物との協業により生まれました。

■ Product Description
We designed an original Kurume Ikat pattern, “Optical Illusion Ikat,” inspired by the natural misalignment of patterns that occurs during the weaving process of Kurume Kasuri in the Chikugo region of southern Fukuoka, Japan, and finished it as a handkerchief.

Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese textile with a history of approximately 220 years. Its yarn-dyeing technique using resist-dyed threads (ikat threads) was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1956.
As the use of narrow-loom fabrics has declined, makers in the region continue to explore new applications. This product was created through a collaboration with Shimokawa Orimono, a Kurume Kasuri weaving studio.
